First flower for summer

I think my passion fruit vine was waiting for a hot day before it was willing to show me a flower. Over the past few months the vine has been growing at a rapid pace and every week I clip off some shoots that seem to be headed either into space or intent on strangling other plants.   We’ve had a few good hot days this past week and sure enough the vine is flowering.

They are a spectacularly complex flower.

This closeup of another shows some of the amazing detail.   The bees will be around soon to do their pollinating thing and within a few weeks I expect I’ll have some passion fruit growing.

How awesome is the natural cycle!
