There is a downside to this incredible soil and micro climate.  Everything grows incredibly well but unfortunately the same applies to weeds.  After just 2 weeks of the soil being exposed I’ve had an infestation of this weed below.  I haven’t figured out what it is yet but fortunately it’s fairly easy to uproot.  My initial research suggests it may be Caltrop but I haven’t seen any spurs yet.

I’m completely to blame for the infestation because I left the soil exposed when I ran out of mulch.  I spent the day weeding today and I’ll put down some black plastic to kill off any seeds.

Next week this garden area will be planted with some more rows of food crops and plenty of sugar cane mulch to stop those weeds coming back.
