Island architecture

The Southern Moreton Bay Islands have an eclectic mix of architecture. There is everything from old Queenslanders to weekender shipping containers.  As more people discover the beauty of the islands, there are more unique and interesting houses popping up.

The common theme among them is the view.  The obvious benefit of living on a small island is that just about everyone has a view of the water.

I like how this little “A” frame has an interesting cladding mirroring the ripples of the bay.

Some are located right on the waterfront like the one below, which looks over to South Stradbroke Island.

Some just maximize the view.

And some of the more recently built homes are contemporary architecturally designed weekenders like the one below.

It’s interesting to see how the islands are changing as more people are either moving away from the city and suburbs or finding a place to spend their weekends and holidays.
